From 1994 through 2001,
The X Files was one of the most popular brands in all of entertainment. Shown in numerous countries around the world, it quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, and one of the first true entertainment brands to gain traction on the internet. Six years later, that fanaticism surrounding the show is alive and well as fans gear up for the latest installment of the franchise,
The X Files: I Want To Believe, coming to theaters on July 25. Frank Spotnitz, the owner of
Big Light Productions, the production company responsible for the new
X Files film, saw the unique opportunity to allow fans to have an official space to gather in anticipation of the film opening.
And gather they have. Using Ning's awesome power of complete branded social networks, Big Light now has another foot out there on the web that allows fans to gather in an official space that they call their own. During peak times on the network, there is new activity roughly every
thirty seconds. That is a whole lot of eyes checking out your brand and interacting in your official space. One of the great tools being utilized is the ability to create events surrounding the opening of the film in each country where fans can find other fans in the area and organize meetups to see the film together, all while spreading the word virally. Pretty cool little tool to have, especially since it is, ahem, free.
I'm very excited to be a part of this project as community manager and look forward to seeing not only how the community takes off as we get closer to the film's opening, but to see what Big Light has next in the pipeline. A fan of the show, or just want to check out what's going on? Join us over at the
Official Big Light Productions social network.
